Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia says moggy or moggie (plural moggies) is a British affectionate term for a domestic cat. Yes we're cat lovers. We have a number of cats we keep as pets, plus some we've helped nurse back to health as "foster parents" and some outdoor "barn cats" who keep the mice population down.

A gallery of cats doing cute things is now up on the photo gallery section. . Please read more in the companion Moggyhollow Blog about our moggies and their day to day exploits. We have so many cat tips that we're trying to compile them here - watch for details soon!!!

Our Moggies

Mandinka sort of rules the roost, the dominant cat in the household. She is always perched on the highest corners, guarding the litter box or the food bowls for whatever reason cats seem to think this is important or offers greater status.

Zoe is a long haired Calico who's not too bright. She likes to squeeze herself into boxes she can barely get out of and is so fat she can no longer groom parts of her fur.

Sabrina by you.

Sabrina should have been named Trinity after the character in The Matrix. She is really fast and can run sideways on walls, leap tall furniture and generally cause all kinds of havoc.
Max and Mandinka (as a kitten).

 Our Barn Cats

Barn Cat Randy with a litter of kittens by you. Meet Randy, the grand,  grand, grand, grandmother of Moggy Hollow. Almost all of our barn cats and most of our pet cats are related to her in some strange way. She is an amazing mother and usually ends up raising everyone's kittens. She is also very friendly to us, although she prefers the hard life outdoors.
Cali: regular visitor to Moggy Hollow by you. Cali has been coming by, looking for a handout for several years. She often disappears for a week or so - we suspect she is owned by a neighbor.
Gone on to Puss n' Boots Hill

Lou's cat Hicks passed away in the fall of 2005 after a short illness. He was originally to be named Zastrozzi for the lead character in the Percy gothic novel of the same name. But Lou ended up naming him after a character in the film Aliens. He could have been called Mistopholes, given his amazing talents. When visitors came to Moggy Hollow most of the other cats ran away and hid. But Hicks would come to greet them. He was very smart and could open doors, food containers - almost anything. Always mischievous, but as loyal as any pet could ever be...

The Famous Miss Ripley by you.

Ripley was a sweet (to people) little black female who followed Lou around everywhere. She ruled the roost - despite her small size every other cat trembled when she came near. One false move and they would bear the receiving end of her sharp claws.

Chessie was 18 years old or 88 years old in cat years. He was special because he was really the last of the original "his and her" kitties. Chessie and his sisters Tigger and Pheobe (who passed away over the past two years) were found in the parking lot of our old condo in The Hills in Bedminster. He was a loyal little friend ever since: always well behaved and rarely any trouble. Chessie of course was named for Chessie the C&O Railroad kitten.

Phoebe was named for the Deleware, Lackawana & Western Railroad's Phoebe Snow. About 16 years old now, Phoebe is a sweet little kitty who likes to sit on your lap.

Rusty was one of our feral cats. She lived on our ridge, but relied on us for food, shelter (a converted doghouse) and medicine at times. She was as sweet as any pet, and sometimes she seemed like she wanted to move inside - but she had a strong will to live the very hard life outdoors. She mothered several kittens - and after she passed away this year we managed to save a couple of them. We'll always remember Rusty through her kittens, though our backdoor will never be the same without her waiting for us every morning and every evening.
